Calculate work hours, weekly payroll timesheets, unpaid break deductions, and overtime pay.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you add is uploaded.

What the Work Hours Calculator does

Tracking daily work hours, deducting unpaid meal breaks, and converting hours and minutes into decimal fractions is essential for accurate timesheets and payroll. This calculator features both a single-shift calculator and a full 7-day weekly timesheet, handling overnight shifts across midnight, overtime thresholds, and gross pay calculations with CSV export.

How to calculate work hours and timesheets

  1. Choose between 7-Day Weekly Timesheet and Single Shift Calculator.
  2. Set your regular hourly pay rate, overtime rate, and weekly overtime threshold (e.g. 40 hours).
  3. Enter shift start and end times; overnight shifts across midnight are detected automatically.
  4. Specify unpaid lunch and break minutes (e.g. 30m or 45m) to calculate net work duration.
  5. Review total hours, decimal hours for payroll entry, and export your timesheet as a CSV file.

The Work Hours Calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

Frequently asked questions

What are decimal hours in payroll?

Decimal hours express minutes as fractions of an hour for accounting software. For example, 8 hours and 15 minutes is 8.25 hours, 8 hours and 30 minutes is 8.50 hours, and 8 hours and 45 minutes is 8.75 hours.

How do overnight shifts calculate?

If the end time is earlier than the start time (e.g., 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), the calculator automatically recognizes that the shift crosses midnight into the next day and calculates the correct 8-hour duration.

How is overtime pay calculated?

Hours worked beyond the weekly threshold (typically 40 hours) are classified as overtime and multiplied by the overtime rate (standard is 1.5x regular pay, known as 'time and a half').

Are timesheet entries saved when I close the browser?

Calculations run locally in memory. Use the 'Export CSV' button to save a permanent copy of your completed timesheet to your computer.
