Business Days Calculator

Calculate total business days and working hours between two dates excluding weekends and holidays.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you add is uploaded.

What the Business Days Calculator does

Counting working days by hand means remembering which days are weekends, which dates are holidays, and whether the first and last days count. This calculator does all of it: pick a start and end date, choose your weekend pattern (Saturday–Sunday, Sunday only, or Friday–Saturday for the Gulf), add the public holidays that apply to you, and it returns the number of working days, the weekend and holiday days it excluded, and the total working hours at the daily hours you set. Both the start and end dates are included, which is how most leave policies and contracts count.

How to count working days between two dates

  1. Choose the start date and the end date. Both days are included in the count.
  2. Pick the weekend that applies: Saturday and Sunday, Sunday only (common for six-day weeks in India), or Friday and Saturday.
  3. Add each public or company holiday that falls in the range. Holidays that land on a weekend are not subtracted twice.
  4. Set the working hours per day if you want a total in hours, for example 8 or 9.
  5. Read the working days, the breakdown of calendar, weekend and holiday days, and the total hours.

The Business Days Calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

When to use it

Planning leave

Taking 23 December to 2 January off looks like eleven days, but with two weekends and two public holidays it may use only five or six days of leave. Counting before you apply tells you exactly how much of your balance a trip will use.

Project and delivery deadlines

When a client asks for delivery within 15 working days, counting forward over a festival week with a six-day work pattern gives a very different date from counting over an ordinary fortnight. The breakdown makes the date easy to explain.

Payroll and attendance

Salary for a partial month, overtime thresholds and attendance percentages are all based on working days in the period. Getting the base number right avoids small errors that repeat every month.

Good to know

  • Public holidays differ by state and by employer in India. Add the list your company publishes rather than a national one.
  • If your contract counts only one of the two end dates, subtract one day from the result.
  • For notice periods, check whether your contract says working days or calendar days; the difference can be two weeks.
  • A Friday–Saturday weekend is standard in several Gulf countries, while the UAE moved to Saturday–Sunday in 2022. Pick the pattern that matches the office, not the country's old rule.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator include both start and end dates?

Yes, both start and end dates are evaluated inclusively in the date range.

Are the start and end dates both counted?

Yes. A range from Monday to Friday of the same week gives five working days. This matches how leave and delivery periods are normally counted. If you need an exclusive count, subtract one.

What happens if a holiday falls on a weekend?

It is only removed once. The day is already excluded as a weekend day, so it does not reduce the working days again. Whether your employer gives a substitute day off is a policy question the calculator cannot know, so add that day as a holiday yourself.

How are working hours calculated?

Working days multiplied by the hours per day you enter. It assumes the same hours every day; half days and shift patterns need to be adjusted by hand.
