What the SIP Calculator does

A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is one of the most reliable wealth-building strategies, leveraging compounding and rupee-cost averaging to grow wealth over time. This calculator projects future maturity value, total principal invested, and estimated capital gains with live visual growth charts. Everything calculates locally on your device without saving your financial inputs.

How to calculate mutual fund SIP returns

  1. Enter your planned monthly investment amount into the deposit field or use the slider.
  2. Set your expected annual rate of return (e.g. 12% to 14% for diversified equity index funds).
  3. Choose your target investment duration in years to visualize long-term compounding.
  4. Review the estimated maturity wealth, wealth gain multiplier, and year-by-year annual growth breakdown table.

The SIP Calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

How it works

SIP Maturity Formula

M = P × [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] × (1 + i)

Where P is monthly deposit, i is periodic monthly interest rate (annual / 12), and n is total months.

Example: 10,000/mo for 10 years at 12% returns ~23.23 Lakhs on an investment of 12 Lakhs.

When to use it

Retirement and long-term corpus planning

Calculate how small monthly contributions over 15 to 25 years can compound into substantial retirement capital.

Child higher education & milestone goals

Determine the exact monthly SIP required to achieve a target corpus for college education or purchasing a home.

Comparing SIP growth vs Fixed Deposits

Compare the compounding power of disciplined equity investment against traditional fixed-return debt instruments.

Good to know

  • Starting an SIP 5 years earlier can double your eventual corpus due to the exponential nature of compound interest.
  • Equity mutual fund returns fluctuate in the short term; SIPs average out market volatility over 5+ year horizons.
  • Increasing your SIP amount annually by 10% (Step-Up SIP) can significantly accelerate your wealth accumulation.
  • All calculations assume reinvestment of returns with monthly compounding frequency.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good expected rate of return for equity SIP?

Historically, broad market index funds and diversified equity mutual funds have returned 12% to 14% CAGR over 10+ year horizons.

What is rupee cost averaging in an SIP?

When markets fall, your fixed monthly allocation buys more fund units; when markets rise, it buys fewer units, averaging your cost per unit over time without requiring market timing.

Is SIP return guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund and stock market investments carry market risk. Expected return rates (such as 12%) are historical reference estimates, not guaranteed bank rates.
