URL Slug Generator

Turn titles into clean URL slugs — one or many at once — with proper handling of accents, other alphabets and Hindi, and optional length limits.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you add is uploaded.

What the URL Slug Generator does

A slug is the readable part of a web address that identifies a page, such as best-budget-phones-2026 in example.com/blog/best-budget-phones-2026. Good slugs are short, lowercase, use hyphens between words and contain no spaces, accents or punctuation, because those get turned into unreadable codes like %20 when the link is shared. This generator converts titles into clean slugs as you type — one per line, so you can do a whole list at once. It removes accents, spells out letters such as ß and Ł, transliterates Cyrillic, Greek and Hindi (नमस्ते भारत becomes namaste-bharat), turns & into and, and can drop filler words or cut long slugs at a word boundary. If you'd rather keep Hindi or another script in the address, it can do that too.

How to create an SEO-friendly URL slug

  1. Paste or type the title of the article, product or page — or several titles, one per line.
  2. Watch the slugs update live: letters are lowercased, accents are removed and punctuation disappears.
  3. Switch on Drop small words to shorten long titles, or set a maximum length; slugs are cut between words.
  4. For titles in Hindi or another script, choose whether to convert them to Latin letters or keep them as they are.
  5. Add your site address to preview the full URL, then copy one slug or all of them.

The URL Slug Generator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

When to use it

Blog posts and articles

A title like "10 Tips for Saving Money on Groceries (2026 Edition!)" becomes 10-tips-saving-money-groceries-2026-edition, which is short enough to read in search results and describes the page clearly.

Product pages

E-commerce platforms build product addresses from names that often include symbols and sizes. Cleaning them up first gives consistent, readable links across the catalogue.

File and folder names

Slugs are also safe file names: no spaces, no characters that break on another operating system, and they sort predictably. Use underscores if your team prefers them for files.

Good to know

  • Keep slugs to about three to five meaningful words. Long slugs are cut off in search results and are harder to share.
  • Do not change the slug of a page that is already published and indexed without setting up a 301 redirect from the old address.
  • Leave dates out of slugs for content you plan to update, so the address does not look out of date next year.
  • Google treats hyphens as word separators but joins words linked by underscores, which is why hyphens are recommended for web addresses.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a good SEO URL slug?

A good slug is concise, descriptive, lowercase, uses hyphens between words, and excludes special characters or punctuation.

Do URL slugs affect SEO?

A little. A descriptive slug helps people decide to click and gives search engines a small hint about the topic, but it is a minor factor compared with the page's content. The bigger benefit is a clean, trustworthy-looking link.

What happens to accented and non-English characters?

Accented Latin letters are converted to their plain forms, so café becomes cafe and über becomes uber. Other symbols are removed. If your audience searches in another script, you may prefer to keep native characters in the address; browsers support them.

Should I remove stop words?

For long titles, yes: dropping words such as the, a and of makes slugs shorter without losing meaning. Keep them when removing them changes the sense, as in "to-do" or a brand name.
