Online Notepad

A distraction-free notepad that saves automatically to your browser. No account, no sync, no waiting.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you add is uploaded.

What the Online Notepad does

Most note apps want an account before they will let you write a sentence. This one opens straight into an empty page and saves as you type, to this browser and nowhere else. It is the right tool for the note you need for the next ten minutes — a phone number, a draft reply, something pasted out of a call — rather than the one you need on three devices next year.

How to use the online notepad

  1. Click New note and start typing. There is nothing to set up.
  2. Your text saves automatically a moment after you stop typing — the 'saved' marker confirms it.
  3. Create as many notes as you like; the first line becomes the title in the list.
  4. Filter across all notes once you have a few, and download any note as a .txt file.

The Online Notepad runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

When to use it

A scratchpad during a call

Names, numbers, and action items need somewhere to go immediately. Opening a tab is faster than opening an app, and the note is still there when you come back.

Drafting before pasting elsewhere

Writing a reply here rather than directly in a web form means a stray refresh does not lose the draft.

Holding text between machines-worth of copying

Somewhere to park a block of text while you reformat it, strip it, or run it through another tool on this site.

Good to know

  • Notes are per-browser. Opening the site in a different browser, or in private mode, shows a different set.
  • Clearing your browser's site data deletes them. Download anything you would be upset to lose.
  • The first non-empty line becomes the title, so starting with a short heading keeps the list readable.
  • It works offline once the page has loaded, since nothing about it needs the network.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my notes stored?

In this browser's local storage. They are not uploaded, and they will not appear on your other devices.

Where exactly are my notes stored?

In this browser's localStorage, on this device. They are never uploaded, which is why there is no signup and why the tool works instantly. The trade-off is real: they will not sync to your phone, and clearing site data removes them.

Will I lose my notes?

They persist across refreshes and browser restarts. They are lost if you clear site data, use private browsing, or open the site in a different browser. For anything important, use the download button to keep a .txt copy.

Is there a size limit?

localStorage caps out at roughly 5MB per site, which is well over a million characters of notes. You would have to write a long book to reach it.

Can other people see my notes?

Not through this site — nothing is transmitted and there is no server holding them. Anyone with access to your unlocked device and this browser profile can read them, exactly as with any local file.
