QR Code Scanner

Scan QR codes from camera or upload images. Extract URLs, vCard contact cards, Wi-Fi passwords, and calendar events instantly.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you add is uploaded.

What the QR Code Scanner does

This client-side QR code scanner reads and decodes QR codes directly inside your web browser. Using your device camera or image uploads, it automatically parses the contents — transforming raw payloads into structured contact cards (vCards), Wi-Fi network credentials, clickable URLs, calendar events, and payment links with zero server uploads.

How to scan and extract QR code data

  1. Select your preferred scanning mode: 'Upload Image or Paste' to analyze a saved photo or screenshot, or 'Live Camera Scanner' to point your camera at a physical QR code.
  2. When using camera mode, align the QR code inside the viewfinder box. The scanner recognizes the code automatically in milliseconds.
  3. Review the structured extracted data. Click 'Save to Phone Contacts' for vCards, 'Copy Wi-Fi Password' for networks, or 'Open Website' for web URLs.
  4. Switch to the 'Raw Payload' tab if you want to inspect or copy the exact underlying string encoded inside the QR matrix.

The QR Code Scanner runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

When to use it

Extracting contact details from business cards

Easily scan vCard QR codes on printed business cards, badges, and exhibition stands. Download the parsed .vcf file to import all phone numbers, email addresses, and job titles directly into your contacts.

Revealing hidden Wi-Fi credentials

Scan hospitality or office Wi-Fi QR codes to view the network SSID, authentication type, and password in plain text, making it easy to share credentials with non-camera devices.

Auditing QR code security and destination URLs

Inspect suspicious or unknown QR codes safely without automatically opening the browser. Review the destination link, protocol, and domain before choosing to open it.

Good to know

  • Ensure sufficient lighting when scanning physical codes with your webcam or phone camera.
  • If scanning a crumpled or glossy paper QR code, angle the device slightly to eliminate harsh light glare.
  • You can paste screenshots directly into the scanner using Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac.
  • All image decoding runs locally in browser WebAssembly and JavaScript — no camera video or image data is ever uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does this QR scanner upload my photos or camera feed?

No. All camera frames and image files are analyzed locally inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Nothing is ever transmitted to a server.

Can I save extracted vCard contacts directly to my phone?

Yes. When a vCard is detected, clicking 'Save to Phone Contacts' downloads a standard .vcf file that opens directly in iOS Contacts, Android Contacts, or Outlook.

Is my camera stream or uploaded photo sent to any server?

No. All image processing and barcode extraction happen entirely inside your browser using client-side JavaScript. TabBench never receives, stores, or transmits your photos or video feed.

Can this tool read inverted (white on black) QR codes?

Yes. The decoding engine tests both standard dark-on-light and inverted light-on-dark orientations automatically.

What types of QR codes can be automatically parsed?

The extractor parses standard website URLs, vCard 3.0 business cards, Wi-Fi networks (WPA/WEP/Open), iCal calendar events, email links (mailto and MATMSG), phone calls (tel), SMS messages, UPI payments, and JSON data.
